[She filled up the kettle and put it on the stove while getting out hot cocoa packets.]

Does hot cocoa go with meatloaf? [It was a special occasion, which meant special drinks. But as Usagi didn't want Fern to get anywhere close to drunk, they'd have to settle on things like hot cocoa or soda.]

[Fern has to think on this, because it's been a few years. What does go with meatloaf? Good question, and thankfully, Usagi is providing an excellent suggestion that makes him snap his fingers and point at her.]

Great idea! Hot cocoa goes with everything!

[At least, it does when you're a kid who grew up right next to a literal kingdom made of sugar.]

Cool, we can fight after. If you need any sword help I gave some lessons to a few other Sleepers, happy to do that here too.

[Alright, so meat, bread crumbs, Makoto started gathering everything that they would need why Usagi go the kettle and started that. She probably would have settled for tea or water, but there was no reason the other two couldn't have cocoa.]

I don't really know anything about swords. I've never used a weapon like that before.

But a lot of people seem to be offering lately, so maybe I should. Rei even has one. I'm not sure Atsushi would be too happy about it though.

[Usagi's usage of a sword was... incredibly limited but highly effective.]

Atsushi would likely just want you to be happy, Mako-chan, and if that means learning to use a sword, I'm sure he'd support it. [She offered over her shoulder.]

Fern, you'll get to try Mako-chan's cooking! She's like, the BEST chef in all of Trench! I would bet money on it!

[Fern is going to lean against the counter, trying to stay out of the way. He's pretty sure he'd just make everything twice as long if he tried to help.]

Who's Atsushi? [He's looking between them curiously.] It can't hurt to learn, especially in a world where there're monsters roaming around.

[Better safe than sorry, right? And he perks up at the mention of how good of a cook Makoto is.]

Wow, really? I can barely boil water!

He's the sweetest and most helpful guy, he's been Usagi's roomie since before I got here. He's my boyfriend.

[Makoto still blushed a little at introducing him that way, even after how long it had been. She knew that he wouldn't object to her wanting to learn, just to the fact that it might be dangerous and that she should be careful.]

I don't know about the best, but I'm pretty good. I was giving a few people lessons before. If you ever want to learn.

Nope, the best. I won't hear any arguments. The only cook better than you is mama. [But then, Usagi's mom was a BEAST in the kitchen.]

And ah! Maybe that can be the trade. Sword lessons for cooking lessons! Just think if Haruka-san shows up here, Mako-chan, you can totally spar with her in another way.

[They were kind of perfect for each other with the way each worried about the other, and how stubborn they were about bearing through anything.]

I guess that makes sense. And it'd be nice to surprise Haruka-san if she does show up. Alright, it's a deal. But we'll start your lessons tomorrow, if you just have a day like this then you should do as much as you can.

[And Makoto hadn't really though much about where she would get a sword. Or what you were supposed to look for in one.]

Yeah, it's been nice sharing a place. And makes it a lot easier to keep caught up on everything.

[Plus having someone around that you can count on for anything made each day a little easier, so yeah Makoto was really lucky that Usagi had invited to live with her.]

I'm glad that neither of you are, I always have a hard time reaching out to new people or trying to make a good first impression. And yeah I'm glad we're able to get to know each now.

I am, I know. [Usagi knows that she seriously lucked out in... many areas. Not just because of her amazing friends, but she knows her home life is a happy one too. She also has it lucky that she has so many loved ones from home here.

And also yes, it is his nickname because of his constant wearing of a bear-hat.]

Once you get to know Mako-chan, you can't help but fall in love with her. It's very easy.
